High time for Opposition to unite for country: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that it is his desire that the whole opposition gets together on the one-point agenda of Go Nawaz Go. He said that those who are describing lack of access to Volume 10 of the JIT report as the worst violation of human rights have kept the report of Justice Najfi Commission on Model Town tragedy under wraps. He said that those who have massacred justice, law and Constitution at every step are now talking about justice and rights at every breath. He asked the Sharif brothers to tell under what law, morality and democratic norms did they kill the innocent people in Model Town? He said that law has exposed the looters and the corrupt lot, adding that it is now responsibility of the people to come out against the rulers and put them into jail.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri made these remarks while talking to the PAT Lawyers Wing through telephone here yesterday. He said that those calling accountability as conspiracy have guilty conscience. He said that the JIT held the rulers to account sufficiently and what came out of their pockets were distortion of facts, contradictions, lies and fraud. He said that it is weakness of the whole system and law that the thieves are now staring others in the eye despite being exposed wholly. He said that the people elect rulers to the highest positions of authority and make them custodians of the national exchequer in the belief that they will spend the resources on their well-being and development of the country. He, however, added in the same breath that the current rulers used the national kitty in setting up offshore companies and building palaces.

The PAT Chairman said that despite being caught, the rulers are not worried. He said that whatever has been revealed is just an iota and a tip of the ice burg of corruption. He said that stealing national wealth is a grave crime and its punishment should also be firm and unrelenting. He warned that dispersed protest of the opposition parties can benefit the ruling mafia. He suggested that all parties should forge unity in their ranks for the sake of nation and the country; they should frame such rules of the game as do not allow anyone from looting the country, holding the institution hostage and hurling threats at the investigators. He said that unless virus of corruption and oppression is eliminated from the system, mere change of the faces will not improve things. He said that democracy is all about equality of the powerful and the weak before the law. He demanded that the system of accountability should be enforced in every department, adding that accountability strengthens democracy.
