Change of system inevitable for permanent change: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that those whose level was merely an acquisition of one work permit have been elected as the PM of the country three times. He said that if the system did not change, then the people of the standing of a councilor will continue to play with the national destiny. He said that the rulers can resort to hooliganism in case the decision in the Panama case comes contrary to their wishes. He said that after presiding over the massacre in the Model Town, the rulers have become more daring and reckless. He said that if the rare opportunity of accountability was lost, then the institution responsible for administration of justice that can do something today will even be deprived of it tomorrow. He said that corruption in mega projects often happens to be mega in size, asking is it how the countries are run?

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri expressed these views while talking to the office bearers of PAT Youth Wing, MSM, and Minhaj Women League yesterday. He said that the youth of MQI and PAT exposed the exploitative and corrupt system by risking their lives and today evidences are being offered against this system of plunder from around the world. He said that every citizen of Pakistan is indebted to the tune of Rs. One hundred thousand and corruption of worth millions of dollars is being detected in every mega development and energy project but no one is held accountable because the institutions are manned by the servile yes-men of the rulers. He demanded that Zafar Haijazi should be made an example for others.

Dr Qadri said that the Public Accounts Committee admitted that there was a massive surge of cost in the New Airport Project whereby its original cost shot up from Rs. 35 billion to Rs. 58 billion. Likewise, Neelum-Jhelum project had an EPC cost of $167 million, which increased up to $ 5 billion so far. He said that dozens of such road projects have been identified whose costs are paid off whereas they do not exist on the ground. He asked as to how will corruption of the so-called ‘democratic’ ruling family which is product of an accident be caught.

The PAT Chairman said that NAB, FBR, SECP, FIA and other investigative agencies have been badly exposed in the Panama leaks case. He said that time has come that the institutions are restructured and competent people are appointed to head them; royal discretionary powers of the PM are done away with; they are freed from the iron grip of the executive; and a transparent system of transfer, posting, promotion and demotion is worked out. He said that the purpose of these reforms in the institutions is that elements with vested interests are not able to use their institutions for their interests and the Model Town like incidents do not happen ever again. He said that if the institutions had been independent, no one would have dared parked their ill-gotten wealth in offshore companies.
