Model Town case needs Panama-type JIT: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that had Panama-like neutral and powerful JIT been set up for investigation into the Model Town case, the families of the martyrs would have got justice by now. He said that we would go to any extent to bring the Punjab Chief Minister into the dock. He said that the workers are ready for the start of the second round of Qisas movement. He asked if gathering thousands of people on the roads for protest is touchstone of justice. He said that we spent every day of last three years in the legal struggle to get justice for Model Town martyrs, adding that it has been three years since we have been in the Lahore High Court to get a copy of the Najafi Judicial Commission report. He said that we are waging a struggle from trial court to the Supreme Court.

The PAT Chairman addressed the lawyers dealing with the Model Town case on telephone yesterday and took a briefing on the legal status of the case. The lawyers told Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri that they have been appearing in the court in the private complaint for last 17 months and likewise, the PAT workers have been facing the rigours in the challan of fake FIR registered by Police. They further informed that they have been knocking on the door of the court to get a copy of Justice Najafi Commission report. They have also gone to the Lahore High Court against the decision of the anti-terrorism court regarding not summoning the Sharifs in the Model Town case. They further stated that we have also challenged the stay order sought by former IGP Mushtaq Sukhera from the Lahore High Court against the anti-terrorism court’s summon to appear there.

The lawyers informed that the families of Model Town martyrs submitted an application in the anti-terrorism court praying that the Justice Najafi Commission report should be made part of the private complaint but the ATC rejected it. It was challenged in the LHC and upon its rejection, the petition has been moved in the Supreme Court, which has not been fixed for hearing so far.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that after disqualification of godfather, it is expected that the families of martyrs will get justice from the courts and all those responsible for the massacre will be brought to justice.
