A meeting of the Youth Parliament (National Youth Assembly) was held under the banner of Minhaj Youth League at the central secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran International in Model Town, Lahore. The organizers stated that reforming the electoral system is imperative to establish true democracy in the country. They said that encouragement at the state level is essential to involve youth in the national political mainstream. They said that outdated thinking is a major obstacle in the way of progress, and attention must be given to reforms in national institutions, education system, and justice system to meet modern demands.
Numerous young participants from various universities in Lahore, as well as different fields of life, attended the Youth Parliament session. During the session, Secretary-General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Vice-Chancellor Minhaj University Lahore (MUL) Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad, education expert Hamaira Bhutto, senior journalist Habib Akram, senior leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party Barrister Aamir Hassan, General Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Nasrullah Goraya, central president of Minhaj Youth League Rana Wahid Shahzad, and Secretary-General Dr. Imran, expressed their views on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, PAT Secretary-General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said that there is a need to prepare young people who are fully aware of the past and deeply understand the present situation.
Senior journalist Habib Akram said in his speech that Pakistan is going through a delicate period in its history, adding that young people can play a decisive role in this situation.
In his remarks on the occasion, Barrister Aamir Hassan said that countries and nations earn credibility through rule of law and constitution. The justice system, he said, plays a central role in the country’s progress and prosperity. He said that youth are the secure future of Pakistan. Crisis will be resolved not through confrontation but through reconciliation, he added.
Rana Waheed Shahzad said that Minhaj Youth League is striving to achieve consensus through dialogue with the representatives of all patriotic parties. MYL, he said, prioritizes education and role in peace.
Other speakers who spoke in the ceremony included Secretary Coordination PAT Arif Chaudhry, Afshan Kayani, Central Senior Vice President Minhaj Youth League Haroon Sani, Shahid Rajput, Ismail Anam, Umair Awan, Muhammad Atiqur Rehman, Ahmed Naweed, and Mujahid Aslam.
A cake marking the 73rd birthday of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri was also cut at the end.
